This delicious chili is made with some unexpected ingredients! Add it over cooked spaghetti for a more “authentic” approach to this famous Ohio-inspired dish.
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef (I used 85/15)
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped (Plus more for topping)
- . 5 oz unsweetened chocolate
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1 tbsp chili powder
- 1/2 tbsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 1/8 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp Paprika
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 8 oz. tomato sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- Salt & Pepper to Taste
Instructions
- In large pot or dutch oven, heat oil. Add onions and saute for 5 minutes.
- Stir in chocolate and dried seasonings.
- Next, stir in broth, tomato sauce, vinegar, tomato paste, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Crumble in ground beef and stir.
- Bring to a boil Simmer for 25 minutes.
- Serve over noodles with desired toppings. We loved onions, cheese, and oyster crackers! So good!
